A wetland is a land area, generally flat, in which the surface is flooded permanently or intermittently. By regularly covered with water, the soil becomes saturated, being deprived of oxygen and an ecosystem resulting hybrid between purely aquatic and terrestrial. The wetland biological category includes areas of different geological properties: marshes, swamps, marshes, swamps, bogs, and seashore areas that have periodic flooding by the tidal (mangrove). WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH SANTA MARIA LAKE WETLAND? In recent years, the wetlands of Bogotá have been undergoing many changes, not only at the hands of global warming but at the hands of man.
The man used large areas of wetlands to construct housing developments, apparently for them there is no greater problem, but did not notice how much they are doing it great harm, since wetlands are sponges that prevent flooding.
